Session 6 of 6
Breaking the Cycle: Healing Begins
A heart transformation workshop — naming it, and choosing differently
Focus
A heart transformation workshop — what shaped me, what I am still carrying, what God says, and what I will choose.
This closing session is a workshop rather than a lecture: a reflective journey through Scripture, honest self-discovery, and the transforming power of God’s love. It moves in four movements, each with something to write down. Nothing written has to be shared.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Psalm 147:3Opening
Take a quiet moment to sit with that truth and let it settle. If your heart could speak today, what would it say? Write one word — no sharing required. This is between you and God. Breathe. Be still. You are safe here.
1 · What shaped me?
Our stories of love, silence, rejection or neglect have shaped our hearts — but they do not have the final word. Complete the sentence: “Growing up, I learned that…” Then ask whether that belief still holds true today. You are not defined by what was done to you, or by what was left undone. God sees the full story and holds it with grace. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts” (Psalm 139:23).
2 · What am I still carrying?
Pain can feel like part of us, but it is something we carry, not who we are. You are not your wounds. Write one word for what you are carrying — fear, shame, anger, loneliness, guilt — then fold the paper and hold it. What you carry today does not have to define your tomorrow. “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
3 · What does God say?
The loudest voice in your life should be God’s — not your past, not your pain, not the words others have spoken over you. You are loved and chosen. You are forgiven and made new. On the back of your paper, write one truth God says about you: I am loved. I am forgiven. I am chosen. I am enough in Christ.
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:174 · What will I choose today?
Every cycle of pain is broken by a moment of courageous choice. You do not need to have it all figured out — just one step, one surrender, one yes to God. Whether that is choosing to forgive, to ask for help, or to trust again, the decision opens the door. Complete this: “Today, with God’s help, I choose…” — “Choose this day whom you will serve” (Joshua 24:15).
The heart of the workshop
Four things worth carrying out of the room. My pain has a story. My pain is not my identity. God meets me in my pain. And healing changes the generations that follow. My past may explain me, but it does not define me. In Christ, healing is possible, hope is alive, and a new legacy can begin.
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24–26Reflection
- “Growing up, I learned that…” — does that belief still hold true today?
- What one word describes what you are still carrying?
- What one truth does God say about you that you find hardest to believe?
- “Today, with God’s help, I choose…”
Father, You know every part of my story — the joys, the wounds, the questions and the hopes. Thank You that You see me completely and love me fully. Help me release what has weighed me down and receive the truth of who I am in You. Give me courage to take the next step toward healing, and to become a source of hope for others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
